Filed under: Pregnancy and Birth, Newborn, Infant / First year, Birth complications, In the NewsGo ahead, get all the political jokes out of the way. I'll wait. Okay, done? Yes, a two-faced baby was born in India, about thirty miles northeast of New Delhi. Her parents are not terribly concerned -- "Whatever God has given me is acceptable," the girl's father said. "What can we do about it?"According to DK Gupta of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, "since the heads are fused, separating them is not possible." The girl will need to be monitored, however, to make sure there are no complications. "Clearly the child is in no immediate danger but it has to be checked whether the oral and nasal cavity and other passages" are working correctly, Gupta said.In the meantime, the girl is eating and breathing normally. "She's fed through one mouth and sucks her thumb with the other. We use whichever mouth is free to feed her," said Vinod Kumar, the father. As yet, the baby has not been given a name; I'm sure one with significance will be chosen. (May I suggest Jane?)The girl has been welcomed into her large extended family with open arms. "This child is very special to us," said her grandfather. It sounds like this girl will grow up well loved, despite her physical differences.Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
